Shadow of the Wall

From the collection

Shadow of the Wall is an artistic exploration of the profound impact of the separation wall on Palestine’s landscape and the lives of its people. The project reflects on how the fragmentation of land and the construction of physical barriers have become enduring symbols of occupation, division, and displacement. It examines the wall’s effect on the natural landscape, fractured geographies, and transformed spaces, revealing the tension between the beauty of Palestine’s land and the human consequences imposed upon it. Through this body of work, Sukainah SalahEddin seeks to depict with the colors of the plants and fragmented land the emotional and psychological weight the wall places on the landscape.
The works in Shadow of the Wall focus on the shadows cast by the wall and the ways they alter the surrounding environment and the spaces they occupy. Here, the shadow becomes more than a visual element—it is a metaphor for complex ideas of division, transformation, memory, and reflection. By representing both the wall and its shadow, the project encourages dialogue about the barriers that continue to divide people, communities, and lands, not only in Palestine but across the world.
Ultimately, Shadow of the Wall is an attempt to document the emotional landscape of a homeland marked by fragmentation and separation. It preserves the intimate relationship between people and place while reflecting on the enduring consequences of walls—both visible and invisible—on communities, identity, and collective memory.
